Tracy Morgan suffered serious brain injuries in the June 7 truck crash, according to his attorney.
At a court hearing this week in the comedian’s lawsuit against Walmart and the truck driver who caused the accident, the lawyer reported that Morgan has a long way to go to recover from the traumatic brain injuries he suffered.
“When you have a traumatic brain injury, it takes a very long time to find out how you’re going to do and how much you’re going to recover. You just don’t know. So that’s where he (Morgan) is. He’s still fighting and trying to live his life at the same time and tryng to get better, and he’s just not better. We’re hoping and praying to get him back to where he was. But the jury’s out” the lawyer said.
James McNair was killed in the six-car crash and three other passengers were injured.
Morgan filed suit against Walmart and truck driver Kevin Roper. The accident investigation revealed that Roper was exceeding the speed limit – 20 miles over the speed limit. There was also indication of truck driver fatigue amid claims that Roper had not slept in over 24 hours prior to slamming into Morgan’s limobus.
In October, Walmart responded to the lawsuit, alleging that Morgan and the other passengers would not have been severely injured had they been wearing seat belts. The comedian spoke out in disbelief stating “After I heard what Walmart said in court I felt I had to speak out. I can’t believe Walmart is blaming me for the accident that they caused. My friends and I were doing nothing wrong.”
