A 3-day old infant died hours after suffering a dog bite from a family dog while sitting in a swing.

The coroner’s investigator reported that the infant sustained head trauma at her home near Beaverdam in northern Allen County on Thursday evening. The investigator stated that the attack lasted only a matter of seconds.

The infant’s parents were in another room and reported that they did not hear any noises from the dog or the baby girl. The child was lifeflighted to a hospital in Toledo, Ohio where she succumbed to her injuries. An autopsy has been scheduled.

According to an Allen County sheriff’s deputy, the dog in question appeared to be a “pit bull” mix. The Allen County dog warden took the animal into custody.
