The internet has undoubtedly changed the way in which many things are done throughout the nation. Included in this is the way in which individuals confess to crimes. By now, most residents of the country are likely aware of the confession a man from Ohio made regarding his role in a fatal car accident. He recorded it and posted the video online. The incident took place this past June.
When the crash occurred the 22-year-old man who made the confession video was allegedly drunk. In fact, the indictment indicated that his blood alcohol content was more than twice the legal limit. This consumption is presumably what caused him to drive the wrong way down a street. When he did this, he ran into, and killed a 61-year-old man.
Following the incident the man was charged with a couple of crimes including aggravated vehicular homicide and operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol. As a result of the man’s plea, he was arraigned.
The man claimed that he made the video and put it online so that others might learn from his experience and not make the mistake of driving drunk the way that he did. Not everyone is pleased with his actions however. Some people, including family members of the man who was killed in the crash, believe the video was a tactic to try to improve the outcome of his case. He could spend more than 8 years in prison.
Regardless of how the criminal case the man is facing turns out, there is a possibility that he could face a civil case as well. The family of the deceased man could decide to file a wrongful death lawsuit in conjunction with the man’s death.
