A project by the City of Westerville, Ohio to make improvements on Sunbury Road is in the planning and design stage. Property owners who own real estate in the area may be subject to eminent domain proceedings by the City to obtain necessary rights-of-way and easements.
Westerville’s planned project includes adding a center turn lane on Sunbury Road from County Line Road to Maxtown Road and modification of the intersection at County Line Road, widening the road there with additional lanes. Also included in the project are curbs and gutters, a storm sewer system, street lighting, installation of a sidewalk on the west side of Sunbury Road and construction of a multi-use trail on the east side of Sunbury Road.
A feasibility study was completed in 2012. Field surveying prior to the detailed design phase of the project is in progess.
The Sunbury Road project is a joint project between the City of Westerville and the Delaware County Engineer. A federal grant of $6.2 million has been obtained. The total estimated cost of the project is approximately $9 million, with design and land acquisition costs expected to exceed $2 million.
