A project to improve East Powell Road in Delaware County, Ohio is currently in the planning stage. Delaware County may exercise its right of eminent domain to obtain private property for this project. Property needed for right-of-way purposes is expected to be acquired in 2014.
The improvements being planned include widening the road and construction of a multi-use path and/or sidewalks along East Powell Road (County Road 14) from South Old State Road to Worthington Road.
The need for improvement on this two mile stretch of roadway has been identified due to crash history, traffic congestion and lack of pedestrian walkways and bicycle trails.
The estimated project cost is between $10 million to $13 million. Construction and utility relocation is expected to begin in 2015.
The East Powell Road project is part of the proposed South Old State Road project. This project would involve construction of an additional lane in each direction on Old State Road from Wynstone Drive to Abbey Knoll Drive and additional turn lanes at Polaris Parkway and Orange Road. Construction of the South Old State Road project is expected to begin in 2016. The South Old State Road project has an estimated cost of $17.2 million.
