Even if a motorcyclist observes all the rules of the road, the risk of being fatally injured in an accident is higher than if the individual was driving an enclosed vehicle. One motorcyclist was recently killed in a fatal accident in Ohio. His family will now be faced with the decision of whether to file a wrongful death suit against the other driver.
Shortly after 3 p.m. in Richland County, a 65-year-old man was driving his new 2014 motorcycle north on Ohio 61. A 24-year-old woman was driving her car south on the same highway. According to the preliminary investigation, it appears as if the car veered left of the centerline, causing her car to collide with the motorcycle.
When emergency responders arrived at the scene, the woman was extricated from her car and taken to an area hospital. Her condition is currently unknown. The motorcyclist also was taken to an area hospital, but he subsequently passed away from his injuries. The crash is still currently under investigation.
If the motorcyclist’s family decides to file an Ohio wrongful death suit against the driver of the car, they may receive monetary compensation for the financial damages occasioned by the tragic fatal accident. Medical costs, funeral and burial expenses and other damages recognized by our laws may be recoverable upon proof of the negligent acts of another party. Thinking about filing a civil suit while also mourning the loss of a loved one can seem difficult at first, but help is always available for those who seek guidance.
