The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) reports that four major national retailers–Amazon.com, Buy Buy Baby, Diapers.com and Toys R Us/Babies R Us–have agreed to voluntarily participate in the recall of more than 150,000 defective products. These companies are recalling the Nap Nanny baby recliners.
The CPSC has received reports of at least five infant deaths and numerous incidents of infants falling, or nearly falling, from the products. The recall involves Nap Nappy Generations One and Two, and the Chill model baby recliners manufactured by Baby Matters LLC. All recalled recliners were sold between 2009 and 2012 .
The CPSC states that the Nap Nanny recliners pose a substantial risk of injury and death to infants due to defects in its design, warnings, and instructions. The agency advised consumers to review the return policies of the participating retailers.
