Household Product Fires
Each year, hundreds of Americans suffer injury as a result of home or apartment fires caused by defective household products. Many of these products are manufactured overseas, and some have been subject to recall by the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission.
Some recent recalls include the following:
Strike Force Portable Air Compressors. The compressor's motor can overheat and ignite the protective cover, posing a fire hazard.
Campbell Hausfield and Husky Air Compressors. Protective covers on the compressor's motor are not made from proper flame retardant material and can ignite, posing a fire hazard.
Aloha Housewares portable electric heaters. The heater can overheat and melt plastic parts, posing a fire hazard.
LDR Industries gas connectors. These connectors are used primarily with gas space heaters, and they can leak propane or natural gas, posing a fire and explosion hazard.
QVC and Tristar portable electric grills. There have been reports of these grills igniting or flaring up, posing a fire hazard.
Hamilton Beach toasters. The toasters can remain "on" and ignite materials covering or in contact with the toaster (such as paper towels or other common kitchen products).
All of the products listed above were manufactured in China. Unfortunately, foreign manufacturers often do not adhere to the strict standards for product safety required by the US government. As a result, American consumers often suffer injury or other loss as a result of fires caused by these dangerous products.
