Halloween Safety
Everyone wants Halloween
to be a safe and fun or themselves, their guests and their children. Here are
a few tips that can help make Halloween an enjoyable holiday for everyone:
Make sure your
child's costume is visible.
Wearing brightly-colored costumes and attaching
reflective tape to the costume will ensure that cars and other people are able
to see your child. Make sure your child carries a flashlight or glow
stick to make them more visible.
Make sure
costumes are flame resistant and easy to walk in.
Double check for loose or
dragging pieces on costumes which may cause difficulty walking. If you
set jack-o-lanterns on your porch with candles in them, make sure that they are
far enough out of the way so that kids' costumes won't accidentally be set on
fire.
Make sure masks
don't block your child's vision.
Ensure the eye holes are large enough for good
peripheral vision
Know the route
your kids will be taking if you aren't going with them.
If you can't take them,
see if another parent or a teen aged sibling can go along. Plan a safe
route so parents know where their older kids will be at all times. Let
your children know not to cut through back alleys and fields. Make sure they
know to stay in populated places and stay in well lit areas.
Make sure you
set a time by which they should be home.
Make sure they know how important
it is for them to be home on time
