Insurance Alert: Renew Driver's License Promptly.
Most automobile insurance policies do not provide coverage for an accident if the drive does not have a valid driver's license. This includes a driver's license that has expired. This is true even if a statutory grace period for renewal has not lapsed. In the case of Smith vs. Safe Auto, an Ohio appeals court held that there was no coverage for a driver whose license had expired, even though he subsequently renewed his license within the statutory six-month grace period. In Ohio, your license expires on your birthday every fourth year. To protect yourself and your family in case of an accident, be sure to get you license renewed on time!
